Gnocchi with Sage-Butter Sauce

Meatless Monday #18 is a one pot supper ready in 15 minutes! That’s my kind of work night meal. Store bought gnocchi (or you can make your own) with a flavourful simple sauce.

The Recipe:
2 packages potato gnocchi
1/4 cup butter
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp. dried sage
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
2 tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese, for garnish

1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the gnocchi pasta, and cook until they float to the surface, 2 to 3 minutes; drain.

2. Melt the butter in pot over medium heat. Stir in the garlic, and cook until the garlic has softened and is beginning to turn golden brown, about 4 minutes. Stir in the sage and salt for a few seconds, then add the cooked gnocchi. Toss gently with 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese and the pepper.

3. Sprinkle with the remaining 2 tbsp. Parmesan cheese to serve.

Gnocchi with Sage-Butter Sauce

My Experience:

So I used gluten free corn gnocchi instead of potato gnocchi. You can obviously make some homemade gnocchi, which I am sure would step it up a couple notches.

The sauce step in the original recipe said to make it in a skillet. And I thought, woah woah woah… I can make this in one pot. That means less dishes! It worked out just fine and probably never would have made a difference.

I’ve also never cooked with sage before and I thought it had a great flavour. Let me tell you, my apartment smelled good tonight!
